OCTOBER 18TH, 2019

The Italian Opera Comes to Boston!

On Friday October 18th , 2019, Boston will welcome the classic Italian Opera, Cavalleria Rusticana, at the legendary Emerson Colonial Theatre, anAmbassador Theatre Group Venue. Written in 1890 by Pietro Mascagni, Cavalleria Rusticana made an indelible mark on the history of opera. In celebration, the Mascagni family formed a committee to share his legacy with a new generation around the world. The tour is led by director Guia Farinelli Mascagni, a descendant of Pietro Mascagni, and she will be joined by a large cast of artists and musicians from Brelundi’s hometown, Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily.

Sneak Peek of the Story:

Cavalleria Rusticana is set in the late 1800’s in the small Sicilian town of Vizzini. On Easter morning, the young Turiddu, before leaving for military service, reveals his love to a local girl, Lola. A year later, upon his return from service, he discovers a hurtful truth that launches a series of events witnessed by the entire town. With it’s beautiful, rustic backdrop, Cavalleria Rusticana beckons to a time long forgotten and, yet, resonates in these modern times where scandal always comes under the scrutiny of the public. The opera’s iconic Intermezzo, which some may recognize from popular films or from the Oscars’ annual memorial tributes, will pull at heartstrings and channel a particular nostalgia that is hard to deny.

About the Event:

Our beloved owner, Michael Colomba, and his committee have proudly helped bring Cavalleria Rusticana to Boston for an exciting night of Sicilian art and culture.

Join us, as we nestle into this small town on the Italian island of Sicily. As the cast and orchestra take you back in time, you’ll discover that, when it comes to love, there has never truly been a “simpler time”. Embark on a story that is sure to bring out the joy, the love, and empathy within you. Topped off with your participation in an Italian sing-a-long to close, it will be a night of true Sicilian-Italian indulgence in the heart of Boston.
